Everything you always wanted to know about our city, but were afraid to askEconomy hotel accommodation
In Samara, we have many hotels – from 1 star to 5. But accommodation prices during FIFA World cup are quite high. If you want to save your money, you can live in Togliatti – the second biggest city in our region. Hotel prices here are lower, than in Samara. In fact, Switzerland team has chosen Togliatti as a base city.
However, you need to pay for taxi. A standard trip from Togliatti to Samara will cost 1000-2000 roubles. If you ride foursome, cost may be lower, than by bus. Travel time is usually 1,5-2 hours. Beware of dishonest drivers, who may try to cheat you and will announce a price over 2000 roubles.
In Togliatti you can visit Technical museum. The exposition contains war tanks, aircrafts and a submarine. Not much but still entertaining.
Samara – city of great rockets...
If you decide to live in Samara, it will be more interesting and exciting, than in Togliatti. Besides the official fan program, you can visit some entertaining places. On Lenin avenue you can find “Samara Kosmicheskaya” museum (Samara Space) — go to the real space rocket, that can be seen from all points of this street.
In the museum you’ll find various space appliances, that were created and produced by the Samara Progress Rocket Space Centre.
Also, you can visit Stalin`s Bunker. It is placed close to Kuibishev square\fan zone. To find it, you need to walk one block from the square center towards the river and turn right. After 20 meters you will see a turn into the yard. Come inside and go forward. The Museum entrance will be on the right.
The Bunker was built in 1942 as a backup headquarter. Its depth is 37 meters.
… and great beer
If you want to try the best russian beer, you need to go to the place, in russian named “Dno” (“Bottom”).
It`s a beer-selling point, placed right after the wall of the beer factory, which was built on the river coast in 1881.
If you buy beer in this place, be sure: it`s a real, authentic trademark “Zhigulevskoe”. In fact, all football fans, who come to Samara from other russian cities, always go to “Dno” after football matches. Also, near the “Dno” you can buy dried river fish – a traditional russian beer snack. Definitely taste dried “Sudak” (pike-perch, zander) and “Chehon`”. Be careful: chehon` has much fish oil.
Next time I`ll tell you about other interesting places which you can find in Samara.
